An amount of £150,000 has been established to fund ten maintenance scholarships, named after Dr Amma Kyei-Mensah (1980, Honorary Fellow).

Dr Amma Kyei-Mensah is a leading Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She was one of the first cohort of women undergraduates in 1980 and is passionate about encouraging young people from non-traditional backgrounds to study Medicine. Amma was elected as an Honorary Fellow of Queens' in 2018.

During her time at Queens', Amma was the first woman awarded Blues in Athletics in 1981, was Captain of the CUAC Women's Team and won the Dennler Trophy in 1981 and 1982 for Best Female Athlete in the Varsity Match. She still holds the best time at Queens' for 100m hurdles: 14.4 seconds.

These days, Amma specialises in high-risk pregnancies complicated by maternal medical disorders. She also gets involved in undergraduate medical teaching.

The Scholarship is for postgraduate students studying Medicine-related courses, including Clinical years, Master's and PhD graduates. A Clinical or PhD student could receive up to £45,000 to cover all three years. Preference may be given to students from access backgrounds and/or wishing to pursue a career in neuroscience.
