Datuk Azzat Bin Kamaludin (1965)

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Datuk Azzat Bin Kamaludin, a distinguished lawyer, diplomat, and corporate leader whose compassionate spirit and unwavering commitment to service left an indelible mark on Malaysia's legal, corporate, and educational landscapes.
Born with a brilliant mind and a generous heart, Datuk Azzat pursued excellence early, earning a degree and a Master's in Law from Queens' College, of Cambridge University. He was called both to the English and Malaysian Bar.
His illustrious career began at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served as an administrative and diplomatic officer from 1970 to 1979. This included a notable role as Assistant Secretary to ASEAN, demonstrating his early dedication to regional cooperation and an influential figure at the Law of the Sea conference.
In 1979, he was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, eventually establishing the law firm Azzat & Izzat. His legal acumen was matched only by his commitment to justice and fairness.
His integrity and wisdom led to his appointment to the Securities Commission from 1993 to 1999, where he helped shape Malaysia's financial regulatory framework.
Throughout his life, Datuk Azzat generously shared his expertise across numerous corporate boards, including Axiata Group, Boustead Holdings, Pulai Springs, and many others bringing principled leadership to each role.
His last board position was in Tune Talk, where he emphasized his dedication to "upholding values of honesty, integrity, and transparency" while benefiting "both customers and the wider community."
His commitment to education was evident in his service on the board of elc International School, where he helped shape the future of countless young Malaysians. As a mentor, he freely gave his time and knowledge to nurture the next generation of Malaysian leaders.
Datuk Azzat's legacy lives on through the institutions he strengthened, the communities he served, and the countless lives he touched with his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering dedication to Malaysia's advancement. His life embodied the principle that true success lies not in personal achievement but in uplifting others.
