David Butterfield completes the
"Run the date" challenge
Dr David Butterfield (Official Fellow) completed the "Run the date" challenge this November.
The aim of the "Run the date" challenge is to run the amount of kilometres equivalent to the date for a whole month. For example, you would run 1km on the 1st November, 2km on the 2nd November, and so on until 30km on 30th November.
To keep motivated, or at least to be distracted, David ran a different loop around Cambridge and its villages each day, and listened his way through half a dozen audiobooks. As the distance increased so did the difficulty. David tells us that, "The challenge came especially in how the distance ratcheted up, with the halfway point only coming during the run for 22nd November."
On the finishing day, David ran up the river from Cambridge to Ely and triumphantly completed the challenge, taking a much deserved break to celebrate (as seen in the photo above).
Overall, the total ran in November was 465km (289 miles), and he is giving a pound per km to outdoor charities.
