John Cowell Sutcliffe-Braithwaite

1936 - 2022

Sadly, John, my brother-in-law and fellow alumnus (1955), died in November 2022 aged 86 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He leaves his widow, Karen, four children and six grandchildren, along with his two sisters - including his twin, Nancy (my wife).

One of his children, Dr Florence Sutcliffe-Braithwaite completed her first book, "Class, Politics, and the Decline of Deference in England 1968-2000" whilst a Research Fellow at Clare College, Cambridge.

John had a long career as a consultant in the computer industry. He started in its nascent days as an expert in low level code, and he went on to manage many projects in the UK and abroad. He led the British Computer Society specialist interest group on disability for many years.

His late father, George Braithwaite, had also been an alumnus of the College (1923-1926).

John will be greatly missed.
