John Michael Labrum (1958)

1937-2024

John Labrum, who has died aged 86, was born in Leamington Spa and spent his working life there. He attended The Leys. Prior to reading Law at Queens’ College Cambridge he was commissioned into the Royal Artillery, serving in Malaya at the end of the Communist ‘Emergency’, returning to England in 1958.

He joined his late father’s law firm Blythe Owen George in 1970, becoming Managing Partner of Blythe Liggins in 1991, following a merger, where he specialized in residential conveyancing and probate work.

He was always a keen sportsman, with rugby, hockey, squash, tennis and latterly bowls, and also devoted much time to the support of others. He was secretary, then President of the
South Warwickshire branch of the NSPCC for 20 years, Captain and later President of Stratford Hockey Club for 12 years, Captain and later President of Warwick Boat Club, a keen Rotarian and golfer. He was a former governor of Myton School, and held three
treasurerships.

He was married to Carolyn for 59 years, and they have three daughters, one of whom followed him into the law, and seven grandchildren.
