The Michael Williamson Instrumental Scholarship

The Michael Williamson Instrumental Scholarship was established in 2019 through a kind donation from Dr Michael Williamson (1963) and expanded in 2024 to provide a second prize. This scholarship was created to encourage students to pursue musical instruments and help alleviate the financial burden of doing so.

This Scholarship endows two prizes per year of £150 each. The first prize is to be awarded to a student of outstanding instrumental ability to pursue high-level music performance.

The second prize, established in 2024, is to be awarded to a student pursuing, or seeking to pursue, an instrument currently underrepresented at Queens’ or to the next best candidate for the first prize should no student fit those criteria.

Ben Markovic (2020) read music at Queens’ and was the Aliki Vatikioti Senior Organ Scholar. Ben performed across the University giving numerous recitals both as a soloist and an accompanist.

"This Scholarship gave me the opportunity to help broaden the range of composers whose music I play – specifically, I completed a mid-term project to learn the complete organ works by Judith Bingham which I played at a recital in Chingford. This Scholarship has also helped me cover the cost of purchasing this sheet music."
