Queens’ College
Alumni Christmas Carol Service 2021
Queens’ hosted its first Alumni Christmas Carol Service on Thursday 9th December at All Saints Church, Margaret Street in London.
Fellows, alumni and their families gathered in All Saints Church on Thursday 9th December to sing carols with Queens’ College Chapel Choir.
The choir was conducted by Mr Ralph Allwood MBE (Fellow Commoner) and accompanied by The Aliki Vatikioti Senior Organ Scholar, Mr Ben Markovic (2020) and The George C. Phillips Junior Organ Scholar, Mr Jack McCabe (2021).
The carols opened with everyone singing Once in Royal David’s City before the service was introduced by the Chaplain, The Reverend Max Bayliss.
The President attended the service and did a reading, as well as readings from The Development Director, Mr Rowan Kitt; Queens’ alumni Mr Jeremiah Stephenson (2008) and The Reverend Michael Gudgeon (1960), and Ms Francé Davies (Head of the Alumni & Development Office and Stewardship Manager).
The Choir sang beautifully, featuring the traditional carols: A Hymn To The Virgin (Britten), Angels’ Carol (Rutter), There is no Rose (Walker), and O König aller Völker (Pärt). In amongst these, the congregation enjoyed singing along to some of the classics, such as Good King Wenceslas and Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.
This was the perfect event to put everyone in the festive spirit. Mince pies and mulled wine were heartily enjoyed after the service.
Many thanks to the team at All Saints Church, the Chapel Choir, Organ Scholars, and the Chaplain for helping to organise this event.
