Queens' welcomes three new Honorary Fellows
We are delighted to announce the election of three new Honorary Fellows to Queens' College last week.
Professor Kelly Chibale, Sir Guy Newey and Professor Stephen Oakley were admitted to their Fellowships in the Chapel, in a ceremony presided over by Queens' President, Dr Mohamed El-Erian.
Honorary Fellows are elected by the Governing Body, having achieved excellence in their profession or chosen field, given distinguished service to the College or University, an institution, movement, region or nation, or been nationally or internationally recognised for any of the above.
Professor Kelly Chibale
Professor Kelly Chibale is an alumnus of Queens' College, matriculating in 1989 and he read Chemistry in his postgraduate studies. Fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Cape Town. His research focuses on drug discovery and he is the founder of two discovery centres, working to develop medicines and improve treatment outcomes for people of African heritage/descent.

Sir Guy Newey (Lord Justice Newey)
Sir Guy Newey is an alumnus of Queens' College having matriculated in 1977 to study Law. He is currently a Lord Justice of Appeal. He became a QC in 2001 and was appointed a judge of the High Court of Justice in 2010. On appointment to the Court of Appeal in 2017 he was also appointed to the Privy Council of the United Kingdom.
Professor Stephen Oakley
Professor Stephen Oakley (Queens' 1977) is a classicist and the ninth Kennedy Professor of Latin at the University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and Professorial Fellow at Emmanuel College. His research focuses on Latin literature, in particular the Roman historians of the Republic, Cicero, Livy, and the transmission of Latin texts. His publications include The Hill Forts of the Samnites (1995) and A Commentary on Livy, Books VI-X (Vol I-IV, 1997-2005).
