Richard Ernest Emms

1936-2020

Medieval Historian born 1936, June 15th.

Died from Parkinsons Disease, Leukemia and Broncho-Pneumonia on June 5th 2020.

After leaving school, he did his national service in Hong Kong before reading History at Queens’. He then taught History at St Lawrence College Ramsgate and Rokeby School in New Malden. Richard’s main focus was on the history of St Augstine’s Abbey, Canterbury, which was his postgraduate study while at Queens’. Richard was also Honorary Associate of the Research Group on Manuscripts Evidence and spoke at many seminars.

He leaves a wife Rosemary, three children and five grandchildren.
