Robert (Bob) F. Peacock

28th January 1946 – December 2020

Robert (Bob) Peacock was born in Lee, South East London on 28th January 1946, the elder of two brothers, and attended the Roan School in Greenwich. During his time at school, he had a keen interest in the Scouting movement and was awarded the Queen Scout award. He then went on to Queens’ to read Natural Sciences in 1965. After receiving his BA degree in 1968, he attended Sussex University as a research student, but returned to Queens’ to continue his studies, gaining a PhD in Materials Science in 1973.

As a student, Bob was a member of the Jazz and Labour Clubs and enjoyed playing croquet. He was also noted as being “a hard worker with a pleasant character”.

Whilst completing his undergraduate studies Bob met Celia, a nurse he had met while she was training at Addenbrookes Hospital, marrying her in July 1970. In 1974 they welcomed their daughter, Clare, into the world, followed by their son, Richard, in 1976, both of whom became teachers.

After completing his Postgraduate studies, Bob and Celia moved to Kent where he began working for Letraset, a typeface sheet manufacturer, where he used his expertise working in the laboratories, later progressing to roles within the Photography, Finance and Logistics departments as well as being Library Manager. After his departure from the company in 1999, Bob decided to take the leap into private academic tutoring, and for many years tutored students in Maths, Physics and Chemistry.

Throughout his life, Bob was a very keen walker and traveller and was lucky enough to see the world with Celia and his children. To his friends and family Bob was an honest, sociable and caring man with a brilliant sense of humour and an intelligent mind, who always had time for everyone and excelled at anything he put his mind to. He is sadly missed by all who knew him.
