The Geography Fund
Supporting Geography students at Queens'
The Geography Fund has been completed with a principal benefaction from Philip Cox CBE (1970), with £100,000 raised to help students of Geography with subject related expenses. Philip studied Geography at Queens' and is currently Chairman of Drax Group. He was awarded a CBE on the 2013 New Year's Honours List for services to the energy industry.
The Geography Fund provides an annual allowance for the Director of Studies to allocate to support the academic and educational activities of Geography students (undergraduates and postgraduates) at Queens'.
In 2015, Dr Graham Denyer Willis, a political ethnographer, became the College’s first ever Fellow in Geography and in 2018 his position was endowed in perpetuity as The Chris Rokos Fellowship in Geography. The Geography Fund builds on this momentum and secures the subject's growth into the future. Since then, Dr Ilona Kater has taken over as Director of Studies in Geography. Her work focuses on Northern and Arctic ecology, examining the complex relationships between human activity, the physical environment, and the living environment.
We are extremely grateful to the alumni and friends of Queens' who have so kindly donated to establish this Fund and other donations. Support like this ensures our students are not discouraged from taking up academic opportunities due to financial circumstances.
