The John Eatwell Fellowship
The John Eatwell Fellowship is a full College Fellowship without a subject bias, allowing maximum versatility to apportion teaching where it is most needed. During Lord Eatwell's tenure as President, the College saw the expansion of the Fellowship by more than 40%, the expansion of the Postgraduate population by 60%, and the admission of the first female Honorary Fellows in June 2018, among other achievements including the construction of the Round in 2020.
The John Eatwell Fellowship was endowed at £2.5 million in 2020 with support from over 190 donors, including Fellows, alumni and friends of the College. It joins four other Fellowships endowed in the names of former Presidents, Sir Arthur Armitage, Sir Derek Bowett, the Revd Canon John Polkinghorne and the Rt Hon. Lord Oxburgh.
"The John Eatwell Fellowship will be a
unique asset to the College, I’m pleased to
say. It will allow Queens' to respond to the
changing academic landscape, meaning the
College can remain a centre for brilliant
research and teaching."
The Inaugural Fellow
Dr Janet Maguire
- BSc (Bristol), PhD (London)
- College Lecturer in Pharmacology
- Deputy Dean of College
Janet is a Lecturer in Pharmacology and a Senior Research Associate in the Division of Experimental Medicine and Immunotherapeutics, within the Department of Medicine at Addenbrooke's. Her research work focuses on the human pharmacology of established and novel G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) in health and disease.
"The John Eatwell Fellowship allows me to continue to provide academic support to all our medicine and veterinary medicine undergraduates. Knowing that they can ask and receive help – or just have a chat– can make all the difference. Our students are academically gifted and it is a privilege to be able to support their scholarly ambitions in whatever way I can."
