Thomas Neville Hudson (1951)

1932-2024

Thomas Neville (Tom) Hudson, 91, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, passed away on June 4th, 2024 as a result of a fall at his home.

Tom was born on December 30th, 1932, to Thomas Hudson and Marjorie Wellby in Buenos Aires. After graduating from St. George’s College (high school) in Argentina in 1950 he went
on to study at Queens’ College, Cambridge. There he rowed in the trial eights, and was a member of the Hawks Club, Kangaroo Club, Leander Club and the Bats.

After graduating with a BA and MA in Economics, he returned to Argentina where he joined the local subsidiary of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI). His career at ICI included postings
at ICI Americas in Connecticut (1969 to 1971) and as General Manager of ICI Mexico (1978 to 1981), before returning to Argentina as Chairman in 1981 and until his retirement in 1992.

In 1958 he married Jill Pryor in Buenos Aires and went on to have two children (John and Annette).

In 1971 Tom attended the 62nd Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School, and upon returning home was one of the founding members, and first president, of the Harvard Club of Argentina.

In 1992 was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to commerce between Great Britain and Latin America.

Tom had many hobbies and past-times, including sailing on the River Plate, playing polo in Mexico and farming in southern Buenos Aires province. He was fascinated by the history of
Latin American independence and published several books on the subject. His passion for life and his many interests kept him youthful right until the very end.

Tom was predeceased by Jill in 2022, and is survived by John and Annette, as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Tom was buried at the British Cemetery in Buenos Aires on June 8th, 2024.
