Queens' Entrepreneurship Society: Lent Term, Event 1

The next Queens' Entrepreneurship Society event is taking place on Wednesday 15th February 2023 from 6:30pm in the Bowett Room.

Our speakers, Jason Mellad and Philip Winter, will participate in a panel discussion before hosting a Q&A. There will be the opportunity for networking towards the end of the evening, and drinks will be available throughout the event.

We'll also be outlining the ways in which the money from the QES Prizes & Melete Scholarships can be used. Click here for more information.

Description

The founding stages of a company are the most crucial to set yourself up for success. Navigating the complexity of options to incubate a company out of university can be confusing and overwhelming. Come along to a conversation with Jason Mellad and Philip Winter – who will share their learnings from starting and running successful companies in the past. Our discussion will cover questions such as how to turn an idea into a company, how to secure funding, the role of accelerators and incubators, and the importance of building a strong network.

Whether you are just starting out to look into entrepreneurship, are thinking about applying to the QES scholarships and prizes, or are looking to grow your business, this panel will provide helpful insights to launch and progress your entrepreneurial journey.

Philip’s company received its first investment from Tim Cook (Apple), and also received funding from Eric Schmidt (Google), Joe Gebbia (Airbnb), and Y-Combinator. Prior to founding Nebia in 2013, Philip lived in Mexico City where he worked for Endeavor, the global non-profit that helps high-impact entrepreneurs scale their ventures. He is currently pursuing his M.B.A. at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School and is an Investment Partner at CreatorFund – and early-stage Venture Capital fund focussing on pre-seed and seed investments in deep tech out of UK Universities.
